I  was hoping the beavers were coming out during daylight hours for a photo op.   I installed the camera yesterday and went to retrieve the the card today.   I was a bit surprised when I saw this as the first picture!

This hawk is known as an Leucistic Red-tailed Hawk.   A true Albino would have not only all white feathers but pink bill, eyes and feet.

I photographed the male in the nest for a bit then went to see where D1 was. ...  Both adults made a few pass to check on D1, but it took 3 1/2 hours before D1 mustered enough courage leave the tree. 

...Over the next 30 minutes D1 seemed to learn how to use it wings, though some of the landings were a bit amusing!

She reported that the bird was anemic, had some kind of infection indicated by a high white blood cell count, and could not keepdown solid or liquid food.   Necropsy showed a heavy infestation of liver flukes, possibly picked up by eating encysted fish.

The eaglet was spotted of the ground on the about 250 feet to the north side of the nest by Frank Esielionis earlier in the day. ...  When Pat arrived the eaglet had made it's way back to the base of the tree, but was still not real responsive.   Pat has transported the eaglet to Tuffs Veterinary Hospital in Grafton, MA with hopes it will be returned soon to the nest.

The female feed the eaglets while I was there and then the male came back to the nest about 2 hours after I arrived with a stick.   One of the eaglets had a look on it&rsquo;s face &lsquo;A Stick.....where&rsquo;s the fish&rsquo;. 

...Dad you brought home a stick..... where&rsquo;s the fish!

This is the first nesting pair in the Nashua River area for many years.   Many thanks to Bill Davis for reintroducing&nbsp;the bald eagle back into the Massachusetts as well as Marion Stoddart for her efferts to clean up the waterways!


There is at least as one chick in the nest as sighted by myself today and a Bill Davis earlier this week.

Frank and I went to a Home Depot west of Hartford, CT. on Friday Dec. 12th to buy a generator.    We ended up coming back with three generator and they were all put to to good use!    As of today Dec. 22nd there are still folks without power here in the area, including the Byrne house next door.

I went over the Home Automation computer in the kitchen and the module that controls the fence was issuing  lots of errors to the log.   I went back over to the control box for the fence and unplugged the module and plugged the wall wart directly into the wall, and it still didn't work.....fried! 


...Lunenburg Deputy Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said lightning hit a pine tree near a 20-foot by 40-foot tool shed of a Lancaster Avenue home.

...After the storm passed, we were out looking at the damage and a flying squirrel popped his head out. 

...We were wonder when the dutch elm disease would take this tree, not thinking a thunderstorm would bring it down!


...With the elm tree gone, we now have a great view to the southwest corner of the pond!

We had a small memorial service for him on the 11th, Bruce Lawrence delivered a very moving eulogy, you can read it here. 

...On Oct. 20th we received a new golden retriever from a breeder in Millis, Ma and we named her Maya. ...  Maya's dad is Collin from a breeder in Ohio and has many champions to his credit.

Now that they have settle in, we have been letting them run around the yards.   Rocky has been having fun with them, the chickens are not fazed by Rocky at all.   Last night when I came home the chicken were up by the house, Rocky proceeded to head down towards the pond and the chickens began to to follow him down to the barn......

Saw-whet owls are strictly nocturnal and seldom observed.   Most bird watchers consider seeing one a "once in a lifetime" experience. The 'moccasin' and 'slipper' in the names reflects the Indian and white settlers view of what the flower looked like.   Its presence may have been thought by the native Americans to induce sprit dreams.
